What is an infantile person?

The concept of infantilism is not that rare nowadays. But what are they like – infantile people?

An infantile person is a person whose behavior is immature and childish. This is not hard to notice once you have been in contact with them for some time. Also, this approach influences most of their decisions and choices.

Here are the main signature traits of an infantile person.

  • Shifting responsibility for their life to other people.

An infantile person sincerely believes that other people are responsible for their successes and fiascoes. They can blame everyone for their failures: the parents, the government, circumstances, etc. But it doesn’t even occur to them to consider another possibility – that the responsibility lies with them.

  • Everyone owes to them something.

This trait is the continuation of the previous one. An infantile approach is very similar to the position of a “victim” who is constantly demanding special treatment and understanding from others. If there is a line – “Let me through, I am in a hurry!” Are you selling an accessory? “Let me have it for free, it’s not like you will go broke!” Interests of others are beyond the grasp of an infantile person. They don’t take them into account.

  • “I am incapable.”

“Oh, I can’t do it myself! Please help!” Yes, an infantile person is dependent on others. They are always on the lookout for where and how they can ask or even demand support – because it is “really hard” to do things on their own.

  • They are not able to adapt.

Infantile people are not trying very hard to adapt to new circumstances. But they spend a lot of energy trying to avoid difficulties. If they would spend all this energy on making an effort to adapt to the environment everything would work out. But… this approach seems all but impossible to them.

  • Absence of life goals

Let us clarify: they may have life goals, but very rarely these goals are thought through and based on reality. Very often they resemble ephemeral dreams, something like “wouldn’t it be nice if I were a singer…” Obviously, the person is not doing anything to make it happen.

  • Inability to care for someone (even for themselves).

To take care of another being you need to feel and understand what they are going through. But, as we mentioned earlier, infantile people don’t know how to do it. Also, as a rule, infantile people place at the center of the universe themselves.

  • Capriciousness, irritability, manipulation, childish reactions (pouting, constant resentment, tears).

Everything that we can observe in children, can be easily noticed in the behavior of infantile people. This makes it difficult to communicate with them. Others may want to distance themselves to avoid being in the “toxic zone”.
