The Rules That Don’t Work

Some of our beliefs come with mother’s milk. Our parents, grandparents, teachers, even the books that we read – all give us a certain worldview. Unfortunately, often they don’t think twice whether this worldview corresponds to reality.

Sayings, proverbs, “wise advice” firmly sit in our heads. Not only they are ingrained in our thought patterns, but they also affect our behavior in a big way. As a rule, this influence is negative.

It is important to not only remove garbage from our homes, but also from our heads. Today, we will look at certain common beliefs with a critical eye.

What goes around comes around

No, it doesn’t always work this way. You may be kind to a person who doesn’t know how to recognize kindness or simply doesn’t want it, and you may get a strong push-back.

You may try hard to invest in your relationship, but if you didn’t choose your partner correctly, your investments may go down the drain.

You may follow all the right rules in the world, but this will not protect you from extremely stressful events.

To be fair, we need to note that the rule “what goes around comes around” sometimes works. It works with regards to yourself and your own life. If you take care of yourself, your feelings, your boundaries, your body, and mind – you will feel good and well-balanced. If you don’t take care of yourself – you will feel unstable.

You are not sure where to begin?

Time heals all wounds

With time, everything will heal itself, time is the best healer, etc.

The best healer is a proper approach to experiencing, living through, working on, and letting go of emotions. And nothing else.

Diligence is the mother of success

This is only the case if you are putting your efforts in the right place towards the right goal. Also, let’s not forget external circumstances and factors that don’t depend upon you.

For example, if you work diligently to launch into the market a product that people are not ready to buy yet – no matter what you do you, it will not be a successful launch.

This saying may become a solid guiding principle if you add a second component: diligence and flexibility. In this case, yes – everything is balanced, and the recipe will work.

You should respect the elderly

Well, first, you should respect all people, regardless of their age, gender, and social status. At the same time, it is important to remember that respecting someone doesn’t mean that you will obey them. Second, you need to consider how the person is treating you. If they allow themselves to be rude, aggressive, or to violate your boundaries, then you have no duty to accept all of this just because they are old. You have a full right to respond and to defend yourself.

Patience is rewarded

Rewards come to those who are good at action. Only to those people.
